Richard Garriott returned safely to Earth from a trip to the International Space Station. He told a news briefing at Russia’s Star City space center that his journey fulfilled a 30-year-old dream to fly into space.  The Space Tourism Society congratulates the sixth space tourist and welcomes him home!

 
Esther Dyson, an famous investor the early PC computer industry, has been moving her efforts toward new frontiers.  Her aerospace investments include not only Space Adventures, but also XCOR Aerospace, Airship Ventures, Coastal Technologies Group and Icon Aircraft.  She sees the viability of private space travel ventures.  On October 7, she announced she is training to be a backup cosmonaut for Charles Simonyi, who is preparing for his SECOND mission to the International Space Station (ISS) in spring 2009. The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO/OMT) is a specialized agency of the United Nations and the leading international organization in the field of tourism. It serves as a global forum for tourism policy issues and a practical source of tourism know-how.


This week it held it’s first conference on space tourism in Strasbourg, France.  The Space Tourism Society is honored that the UN recognizes the viability and potential of this new industry.
