On October 31, 2008: Outer Space is “in” again
New York City, NY – On Friday, October 31, Space Tourism Society's New York chapter brings excitement and awareness to space exploration again with a ball featuring a space-wear fashion show, a choreographed light-saber battle, travel offerings from Virgin Galactic, exhibits and space travel-themed door prizes.
The producers of Yuri's Night NYC -- the yearly April 12 around-the-world celebration of human space flight -- will host their second event in a long line of space themed events aimed to inspire, inform and provide a venue for a new generation to network about space exploration.
The Space Monster Mashup Ball celebrates Halloween in grand style at Club PINK in downtown Manhattan. Highlights include a fashion show and design contest featuring Virtual Daughter Spacewear by Kristin Corman and other inventive designers. The prize for "Best Outfit" is awarded by a committee during the event. Designers interested in entering can find requirements and submission information online at www.spacemonstermashup.com or by emailing spacefashion@eventbye.com.
The Manhattan based New York Jedi Stage-Combat group will perform several Star Wars™ styled light-saber battles. The 10- to 15-minute performance will feature a team of costumed Jedi and Sith clashing glowing light-sabers with whirling choreography before the crowd.
Park Avenue Space Travel – an accredited travel agent for Virgin Galactic – will present actual space travel offerings and exhibits from Virgin Galactic, Nastar Center and Zero-G. They will also donate a space travel themed door prize to be raffled off amongst guests. www.parkavenuespacetravel.com
A Halloween costume contest for guests will be hosted by Dana Sterling and Alan Piper with several hundred dollars worth of prizes donated by Halloween Adventure, Club Opal, Village Lantern, and Caldwell Vineyards' Rocket Science Wine.
For the duration of the event, guests will enjoy international dance music mixing by DJ Thomas Noe of International Swede and a space-themed audio/video mixing production by VJ Gian Pablo Villamil and T3db0t. Light food and snacks will be served at the beginning of the event and $6 Space Pyrat Rum Punch will be offered until midnight.
Tickets are on sale online at www.spacemonstermashup.com for the advance price of $20 and door price of $30. VIP tickets are $60 per person or $200 for a party of four, including a round of champagne and prime table seating. Guests must be 21 and over to attend.
The Space Monster Mashup Ball is one in a series of space-themed events presented by the Space Tourism Society in support of Yuri's Night, an annual worldwide space celebration. Yuri's Night and related events provide a venue for a new generation to network, explore, and create plans for the future. Many of today's successful entrepreneurs and businesspeople grew up inspired by humanity's achievements in space, and these new leaders are bringing a fresh sense of creativity and dynamism to space activities. Space Tourism Society aim to encourage and promote these new ideas.
