Patrick Collins, 1993, published 2003 -- Authored by one of the true pioneers of space tourism, Dr. Collins presents the results of space tourism surveys and other research to predict a $12 billion/year industry by 2030.

NASA Report: “General Public Space Travel and Tourism - Volume 1 Executive Summary”

O’Neil, Bekey, Mankins, Rogers, Stallmer -- A controversial document released in 1998 that caused an uproar at the highest levels of NASA bureaucracy.  It proposed that NASA foster the development of public space travel and work with private industry to create the infrastructure for this industry.

“Practical Tourism in Space”

Samuel Coniglio --Pioneering work in 1997 that sets the definition of space tourism and maps out a path for the industry’s development.  This paper discussed two projects which a major entertainment or tourism corporation could get involved in immediately to help jump start the industry.

NASA Langley -- “Commercial Space Transportation Study”

NASA, Boeing, General Dynamics, Lockheed, Martin Marietta, McDonnell Douglas, Rockwell -- A unique collaboration between NASA and its prime contractors in 1994 (most of which have merged together) where they sought to recapture lost launch market share from other nations by identifying future markets.  Amazing for its wealth of detail, the study was quietly shelved.
